Stock and mass balance

Mass balance: making deliveries match what you use

Gesthorm collects from the batching controller both what comes into the plant and what each delivery note consumes. With that it reconciles the mass balance and keeps stock control of each raw material, with its value.

Where the data comes from

  • Incoming delivery notes for raw materials arrive from the batching controller, with the material cost and its haulage cost.
  • Each outgoing delivery note brings the raw materials used to produce it.
  • Each raw material has its characteristics, its cost per tonne and its stock at each plant.

Mass balance and inventory valuation

With deliveries and consumption, Gesthorm builds the mass balance: what has come in versus what has been consumed. If it doesn't match, you see it. The stock of each raw material is valued, so you know what you have in the silos and what it's worth: the inventory valuation comes out on its own.

Purchasing, suppliers and fuel

  • Raw material suppliers, orders, and incoming delivery notes and invoices.
  • A forecast of incoming invoices for raw materials and their haulage, so you can compare them with the ones you receive.
  • Fuel tanks and their supplies.
  • Other non-production expenses, with their suppliers, items, delivery notes and invoices.

How stock control fits with everything else

Stock isn't an island:

Cost per cubic metre

The raw material cost feeds into each mix design's cost.

Several plants

Stock is tracked plant by plant.

Supplier invoices

Forecast and compared with the ones received.

Accounting

Purchases go through to the integrated accounting.

It all starts at the plant

For the mass balance to be reliable, deliveries and consumption have to arrive without anyone typing them in. That's what the connection with the loading software does. And with those costs, Gesthorm calculates the cost of each cubic metre.
