Costs and profitability

The real cost of concrete per m3

Gesthorm stores each mix design (the proportions of each concrete) with its composition and calculates the cost of concrete per m3 produced. When the price of raw materials or haulage changes, the cost updates itself.

Why the true cost of concrete per m3 is so hard to pin down

The price of cement, aggregates or admixtures changes with every purchase. Hauling those raw materials also costs money, and it depends on who brings them. If the mix design's cost is worked out once in a spreadsheet, before long it no longer resembles the real one.

And without the real cost you can't be sure which sites make money and which don't, or at what price of concrete per cubic metre it pays you to sell.

How Gesthorm calculates the cost per cubic metre

  • Each concrete mix design or recipe is stored with its raw material composition.
  • Each incoming delivery note stores the cost of the raw material purchased and its haulage cost, based on the haulier that made the trip.
  • With that, Gesthorm calculates the cost of the mix design per cubic metre and keeps it updated as new purchases come in.
  • On each outgoing delivery note, the cost comes from the mix design and the selling price from the one set for the site and in the quote. The raw materials used are also recorded.

From quote to site

When you prepare a quote, Gesthorm gives you the item prices, the theoretical profitability and the customer's maximum risk. Once it's accepted, the site is created and, from then on, you can see at any time how far it deviates from the quote and what the actual profitability is.

The reports you'll have

Costs don't stay on the delivery note. You can view them like this:

Profit by period

Sales and gross profit to compare months or years.

Profitability by site

Each site's deviation from its quote.

Delivery notes by product

What has been sold of each product.

Custom reports

You choose fields, filters, sort order and totals, and export it to Excel.

On any device

Gesthorm's dashboards show profitability, sales, purchases and consumption on a computer or a mobile. For the cost to be reliable, the data has to arrive on its own: the plant's delivery notes come in through the connection with the batching controller and material deliveries are reconciled with the mass balance.

Where does Gesthorm get the raw material cost from?

From the incoming delivery notes. Each one stores the cost of the material purchased and of its haulage.

How much does a cubic metre of concrete cost at my plant?

It depends on the mix design and on what you pay for raw materials and their haulage in each purchase. Gesthorm calculates it for each mix design using your incoming delivery notes.

Does the cost per cubic metre update itself?

Yes. It is recalculated as raw material and haulage costs change with new deliveries.

Can I see the profitability of each site?

Yes. Each site shows its deviation from the quote and its actual profitability.

Can I create my own reports?

Yes. A wizard lets you choose fields, filters, sort order and totals, save the report and export it to Excel.
