Where transport costs slip through the cracks
Transport weighs on two fronts. On the way in, because cement, aggregates and admixtures arrive in lorries that also cost money, and that cost is part of the real price of each mix design. On the way out, because every concrete truck that goes to site is carried by one of your own vehicles or by a contracted haulier.
If hauliers' invoices are checked by eye, it's hard to know whether what they charge matches the trips that were made. And if raw material haulage isn't allocated to each purchase, the cost per cubic metre comes out lower than it really is.
